Name:
Melissa Souček

Where do you currently live?  Mountain View, CA

How far along were you when you found out you were expecting twins9 weeks

Any issues during your pregnancy?  Pretty complicated free. I had three UTIs. Some swelling, mostly at the end of pregnancy.

Memorable/funny moment when you were pregnant: I think simply having a twin pregnancy is memorable enough. Though I remember going in to the ER because of a UTI. I was uncomfortable but not in excruciating pain. My urine sample was something out of a horror film and the nurse shouted, "sweet Jesus" when I handed it to her.

Looking back, what is one thing you would tell your pregnant self?  To not be afraid to share your fears with your caregiver and brush them off as silly. I always thought something was going to happen to one of my twins.

How many weeks/days were you when your twins were born? 41 weeks, 3 days

Did you have a c-section or natural delivery?  Planned a home birth ended with a transfer and a c-section. My previous two births were induced. It was lovely to go into labor naturally after having Acupuncture 24 hrs prior. I labored at home for 12 hours and was pushy and 9 cm when our son baby A's heartrate dropped. We immediately went to the hospital, which was a two minute drive. We left our house and arrived at 12:40 am.

Any NICU time?  If yes, for what reason and how long?  Yes, our daughter for three days and our son for 14 days. He was transferred to a different hospital. They both had meconium aspiration and were being treated for that. At 1 day old our son had a stroke. We don't know why. There was an infection in the amniotic sac and in the cord and placenta. Don't know the correlation if any. He's fine by the way. His recovery has been nothing short of miraculous! He's developing wonderfully and is where he should be and even advanced. He's doing things a 16 mo old would do. The stroke was at the part of the brain where it would effect motor skills. He was rolling at 3 mo, crawling at 5 mo, pulling himself up at 7 mo, and walking by 10 mo. He has the ever so slightest limp in his left leg. It's really hard to see and no would know unless pointed out and even then it's hard to detect.

Did you have any complications after delivery? I did not have any complications. I lost 2 liters of blood from surgery and had some anemia but within 2 weeks my iron levels were normal.

How long did you (the parents) stay in the hospital? We stayed for five days and four nights.

Did your twins stay with you or in the hospital nursery at night? My daughter was with me when she was released from NICU.

What are three things you are so glad you had (or wish you would have had) at the hospital?

Husband, phone/camera, prayers and support! I wished I would have written an emergency birth plan just in case.

Describe one of your favorite moments while you were at the hospital:   Spending time with both babies in NICU about 7 hrs after my c-section. My midwife bringing sandwiches and just sitting and visiting with us.

If you had one piece of advice you could give an expecting mom of twins, what would it be?  I don't really have any advice.
