Name:
Jessica Carey

Where do you currently live?  Bothell, WA

How far along were you when you found out you were expecting twins7 weeks

Any issues during your pregnancy?
My pregnancy was pretty much complication free. The last couple of months I put myself on home bedrest but only because moving was so difficult.

Memorable/funny moment when you were pregnant: When I was about 13 weeks we were shopping at Whole Foods. Just general grocery shopping. I opened a freezer door and a huge pumpkin fell off the display on the top of the freezer to land on my head. My skull cracked the pumpkin.

Looking back, what is one thing you would tell your pregnant self?  You're doing everything perfectly.

How many weeks/days were you when your twins were born? 36 weeks, 4 days

Baby A's Information:
Conor Zane (We call him Zane)
April 14, 2013
2:03 am
6 lbs 4.4 oz
19.29 in

Baby B's Information:  Elliott Andrew
April 14, 2013
2:04 am
6 lbs 15 oz
19.29 in

Are your twins identical? No

Did you have a c-section or natural delivery?  The boys were born via emergency c-section. Baby B's placenta ruptured at home and we rushed to the hospital.

The nurses were not ready to handle the emergency nature of our situation and sent for the doctor. Once the doctor saw the amount of blood we rushed to the OR. The surgery was uneventful. Afterwards I was clotting and losing a lot of blood. They threatened to take me back to the OR but managed to handle things without that measure.

Any NICU time?  If yes, for what reason and how long?  Yes. Twin B was sent straight to the NICU from the OR. His lungs didn't want to work. He was put on cpap and spent about two days in the NICU.

Twin A was sent to the NICU a few hours after his birth because of low blood sugar. He spent about four hours there until his blood sugar numbers came back up.

Did you have any complications after delivery? I had the clotting and blood loss. They had a hard time getting the clots out and the bleeding to stop.

How long did you (the parents) stay in the hospital? 5 days

What are three things you are so glad you had (or wish you would have had) at the hospital?
My doula.
My phone.
My husband.

Describe one of your favorite moments while you were at the hospital:  Honestly, leaving the hospital was my favorite moment. I wasn't able to see Elliott for over a day. They kept us there for what seemed like a long time and wouldn't let me even shower. It was so freeing to be able to leave the hospital with my babies.

If you had one piece of advice you could give an expecting mom of twins, what would it be?  Never say no to help. You think you don't need help now while you're pregnant but you will want all the help you can get.
