Name: Lacy Rohre
Where do you currently live? Georgetown, Texas
How far along were you when you found out you were expecting twins? 11 weeks
Any issues during your pregnancy? Just gestational diabetes. I had to give up my morning bagel and afternoon sweet teas.
Memorable/funny moment when you were pregnant: At 9 weeks I had my first ultrasound. We left that appointment with an adorable ultrasound picture of a gummy-bear sized baby. We called all our friends and family to share our happy news. Two weeks later, at my second ultrasound appointment, the doctor said "huh, it looks a little fuzzy but I think there may be two." I immediately burst into tears! We think one baby was hiding behind the other at the first appointment. I drove straight to Sonic, ordered fried cheese sticks, and sat on my couch in silence for the next two hours. I just couldn't believe I'd be able to love two babies equally, at the same time. Now I know that each baby had its own personality from day 1 and it was never a problem. Enough love to go around!
Looking back, what is one thing you would tell your pregnant self? Take pictures of you and your big ol' pregnant belly even if you don't think you're at your most beautiful. You will regret not having pictures of that.
How many weeks/days were you when your twins were born? 34 weeks on the dot

Are your twins identical? Nope, fraternal.
Did you have a c-section or natural delivery? Both babies were in the right position so I pushed for 3 hours trying to have a natural delivery. My contractions weren't very helpful though. They were 3 minutes apart, then 12, then 6. It just wouldn't work for me. My husband even saw baby A's head crowning and my doctor said I could push for one more hour if I felt up to it. I think I just wanted the babies out safely so I decided to have a c-section. While they were prepping the operating room, an emergency delivery came in before me so I actually took about an hour nap before they wheeled me in!
Any NICU time? If yes, for what reason and how long? 17 days. 17 long, catatonic days. I should have been prepared but wasn't. My boys needed a little help breathing and keeping their temperature constant. It just felt very odd to deliver the boys but not be able to hold them or take them home with us.
Did you have any complications after delivery? Nope. Glad I took the nurse's advice and walked to the NICU everyday. That helped me recover quickly.
How long did you (the parents) stay in the hospital? 5 days
What are three things you are so glad you had (or wish you would have had) at the hospital?
big, comfy panties
granola bars and other energy snacks
my own pillow (wish I'd had!)
Describe one of your favorite moments while you were at the hospital: Taking friends to visit the NICU. We have some awesome friends who wanted to experience that, even though it can be overwhelming, and it was so fun to see them meet our boys.
If you had one piece of advice you could give an expecting mom of twins, what would it be? Remember, you were super efficient by having two babies at the same time. Do what works best for you despite what anyone else says.

Thanks for including me! Happy to share or answer any questions for new twin mommas out there. These five year-old boys are the best adventure.
ReplyDeleteAmazing story, thanks for sharing! Its crazy how similar they look to me for being fraternal. But as their Mother they probably look very different to you. Beautiful boys! Expecting my boys any day, 35 weeks along and just love reading these birth stories.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rachel, that's very sweet. Have so much fun with your boys. Enjoy the early days, even if they are tough. Brew a pot of coffee every morning (or tea or whatever makes you feel special) and tell yourself you will sleep again. :-)
DeleteMy Baby B is also a Weston....but hes only 12 weeks old :)
ReplyDeleteYay for more Weston's!
