Name:
Hadley Adcock

Where do you currently live?  Owensboro, KY

How far along were you when you found out you were expecting twins? 11 weeks

Any issues during your pregnancy?
Yes! Our twins had Twin to Twin Transfusion. A condition that only exist in identical twins. Essie was giving her fluid and nutrients to Audrey. Audrey was growing bigger, and Essie wasn't growing. I had to have a laser ablation surgery at 22 weeks and was placed on bed rest at home.

Memorable/funny moment when you were pregnant: When my husband, Joel and I were walking into our first ultrasound I said, "What do you think the chances are we are having twins?" ( I felt so sick so I wondered if there were two in there, plus I couldn't button my pants at 8 weeks).  He replied, I'm 100% sure we're not having twins. Boy was he wrong!

Looking back, what is one thing you would tell your pregnant self?  Eat more ice cream ;)

How many weeks/days were you when your twins were born?
27 weeks

Are your twins identical?  Yes

Did you have a c-section or natural delivery?  I had an emergency c-section. My water broke at 26 weeks but I wasn't in "labor" I stayed on hospital bed rest for a week and delivered the twins a week later due to infection.

Any NICU time? If yes, for what reason and how long?  Yes, the hardest time of my life, prematurity mainly. The girls were born 13 weeks early and they spent 90 days in the NICU. They did so well. Our main issue was under developed lungs. They spent 12 hours on a vent and 10 weeks on other forms of oxygen. We had our handful of blood transfusions (sounds scary, but they give blood out like water in the NICU) and mini complications. They are perfect now though, you would never know they were premature.

Did you have any complications after delivery? Yes I sure did. It was awful because the girls were in the NICU and I was having all these issues. I started feeling very ill and I had a 104.8 temperature. I spent three weeks in the hospital (same hospital as the girls so that was a plus) when they finally found an abscess in my pelvic region. I had surgery to remove it and a drain bag placed in (worst thing ever). I survived thought :)

How long did you (the parents) stay in the hospital?
14 days

What are three things you are so glad you had (or wish you would have had) at the hospital?
My robe was my best friend
My phone of course to keep everyone update and to take pictures of the twins
Big comfy PJ pants

Describe one of your favorite moments while you were at the hospital: Holding my twins for the first time was the best moment of my life. I had to wait 14 days because of their size. I'll never forget doing skin to skin with them. I had never held a human so small but so beautiful.

If you had one piece of advice you could give an expecting mom of twins, what would it be?
Everything doesn't always go ideally, I imagined my perfect natural delivery in my hometown with my family around. It didn't happen like I planned at all. But everything ended up okay. The journey may be different than expected but the end result I would never change.
