Name: Amanda

Where do you currently live (city/state)?  Kansas City, MO

How far along were you when you found out you were expecting twins? 6 weeks 4 days
Any issues during your pregnancy? At 35 weeks I went in for my routine nonstress test. At the conclusion the nurse took my blood pressure like usual. It was a little high so she said she would come back in a few minutes and take it again. It had not changed the next time she took it, so she had me lie down in one of the rooms and relax. I figured it was probably high due to me being stressed out about working all weekend. When she came back it was just as high so she said they would be sending me to L&D to be monitored. They monitored the babies and had me give a urine sample. They then concluded I had preeclampsia and they would induce me the next morning. Preeclampsia was not something I had expected - my pregnancy had been great and without issues until then.

Memorable/funny moment when you were pregnant:  The most memorable moment of my pregnancy was going for our first appointment. My husband already has twins girls from a previous marriage. I remember walking in joking about having triplets or quadruplets, but the thought never crossed my mind that we would actually be having twins. So I'm lying there for my first sonogram and the nurse says right away, "Looks like you are having twins!" I was so excited and that is about all I remember. Except I do remember my husband's silence after finding out he would have two sets of twins. :)

Looking back, what is one thing you would tell your pregnant self? Enjoy every minute of your pregnancy. Especially if it isn't something you plan to do again. It really does go fast. I would have also taken more pregnancy pictures.

How many weeks/days were you when your twins were born? 35 weeks 5 days

Are your twins identical?  Yes

Did you have a c-section or natural delivery?  Natural. I was expecting to have a c-section as the babies had been transverse through most of my pregnancy. They ended up both being head down when they did a sonogram while I was in the hospital.

Any NICU time? If yes, for what reason and how long? Three weeks.  They just needed time to gain weight, maintain their body temperature, and eat well before we could go home. We were lucky enough to be able to stay at the hospital with them. Three weeks seemed to last forever.

Did you have any complications after delivery? No complications.

How long did you (the parents) stay in the hospital?  I was released after three days but stayed with them until they were able to come home.

Did your twins stay with you or in the hospital nursery at night?  In the nursery until they were released to stay in our room.

What are three things you are so glad you had (or wish you would have had) at the hospital?
1. I was fortunate enough to be able to use the birthing whirlpool tub to relax in. I was very sore and this helped greatly.
2. Stretchy comfy clothes
3. My camera- It's great to document how far your babies have come, especially if they've been in the NICU.

Describe one of your favorite moments while you were at the hospital:  The first time I held my babies together.

If you had one piece of advice you could give an expecting mom of twins, what would it be? Enjoy the ride! It's crazy and somewhat stressful, but it does get much easier.
